What is USG KUB?
Ultrasound of the abdominal and pelvic organs. This scan uses high-frequency sound waves — no radiation — to produce live images, so your doctor can see the area in detail.
When is this test advised?
Commonly requested for abdominal or pelvic pain, to follow up an abnormal ultrasound or blood test, and for detailed assessment of the liver, biliary tree, kidneys and pelvic organs. Your doctor decides whether this specific study is right for you.
What does it evaluate?
Liver, gallbladder and bile ducts, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, bowel wall and pelvic organs.

How to prepare
Do not eat for 6 hours before the scan — plain water is allowed and is helpful. An empty stomach keeps the gallbladder filled and reduces gas in the bowel, which is what makes the picture clear. Come with a full bladder: drink 3–4 glasses of water about an hour before your appointment and do not pass urine after that. A full bladder is what lets the scan see the pelvic organs. Please bring your prescription and any previous scans or reports of the same area.
