What is Fistulogram?
An X-Ray study of a fistula. Contrast is injected into the external opening so films can show the whole course of the track and which structure it connects to.
When is this test advised?
Requested when a hollow organ or passage has to be seen from the inside — its outline, whether it is narrowed or blocked, and whether anything leaks where it should not. Your doctor decides whether this specific study is right for you.
What does it evaluate?
The shape, calibre and drainage of the passage being studied, and how freely the contrast moves through it.

How to prepare
No fasting is needed. Contrast is injected into the opening being studied and films are taken as it fills. Leave the area uncovered and unbandaged if you can, or bring a spare dressing to put on afterwards. X-Rays use a small dose of radiation, so tell our team before the exposure if you are pregnant or think you might be. Please bring your prescription and any previous films or reports of the same area.
