What is OPG (Panoramic Dental X-Ray)?
A single X-Ray image of the whole mouth. The tube travels in an arc around your head while the detector moves on the opposite side, which lays the curved jaw out flat — so every tooth, both jaws and the surrounding bone appear on one film instead of a dozen small ones.
When is this test advised?
Commonly requested for a full dental check before treatment planning, to find impacted or unerupted wisdom teeth, to see the extent of bone loss in gum disease, before dentures or braces, after a jaw injury, and to look for a cyst or lesion in the jaw. Your doctor decides whether this specific study is right for you.
What does it evaluate?
All erupted and unerupted teeth and their roots, the level of the supporting bone, impacted wisdom teeth and their relation to the nerve canal, cysts and lesions in either jaw, the sinus floors, and the outline of both jaw joints.

How to prepare
No fasting is needed. Remove everything metal from the head and neck before the exposure — earrings, nose pin, chain, hairpins, spectacles, hearing aids — and take out any removable denture, retainer or orthodontic plate. Fixed braces, crowns and implants cannot be removed and are not a problem; just tell the technician they are there. This matters more than on an ordinary dental film because the machine travels around your head while the picture is being taken, so a single earring smears a ghost right across the jaw and the film has to be repeated. The dose is lower than a full set of small dental films, but tell our team if you are pregnant or think you might be. You will stand and bite gently on a small plastic guide while the arm rotates around you, which takes about twenty seconds; staying still for that is the whole job. Please bring your dentist's prescription and any earlier films.
